Vendor Conversations: Cassidy Dawn Photography
Cassidy and I didn’t meet while I was living in Lexington, Kentucky but by all accounts we should have. She was working for one of my fav Lexington photographers – the darling Melanie Mauer – who I saw quite often. Somehow though our paths just never crossed. When Cassidy and her hubby moved back to Ohio, we made our paths cross and picked up like the old friends we should have been. If you read her website and blog you will get a sense of what a sweet, loving person she is and I believe that comes through in her photography as well!

How did Cassidy Dawn Photography come to be?
I have been photographing something since my 9th birthday (when I got my camera)…it’s always been my love. I don’t really remember a time when I didn’t want to be a photographer (well, see question 7). It’s what I love & who I am…I am a photographer
How would you describe your style
Simple, Stunning & Sophisticated. That’s the motto at CDP. Your photographs should be timeless and reflect your day. Weddings are a day of love and that should be documented in an artful way that’s timeless.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
Documenting the love! My job is simply founded on the love people have for one another and those people wanting to document it. Whether it’s a family, children, engagement shoot or a wedding – it’s always centered on love. It doesn’t get much better than that!
How many people shoot for Cassidy Dawn Photography?
Two – Primarily me. However my second shooter, Justin, also shoots the ceremony & parts of the reception. It works out well that he also happens to be my husband, so we make a great team! Not to mention he’s a very talented photographer!
What is the starting investment for a wedding?
$1600
Anything else we should know about Cassidy Dawn Photography?
Although CDP is based in Southern Ohio, we absolutely love to travel! I consider Columbus a second home – any excuse to go there is so wonderful!
Childhood ambition?
Meteorologist / Astronaut / Photographer – in that order.
Dream vacation?
This changes daily, I am addicted to travel. At this very minute…I am aching to see the Redwoods!
Last time you laughed until it hurt?
Christmas – My family watched 8mm films of my dad & his sisters growing up! It was so great!
Favorite part of a wedding day?
Photos with just the bride & groom. Not only is it special for me to see that connection between the two of them, but to be with them while they are simply living in the moment. The day is so busy, so to have a few moments alone (with me photographing of course) is so amazing…the love is soo evident!
Last thing you bought?
A new online proofing system for my amazing clients!
Greatest length gone to get the perfect shot?
There have been way too many times that Justin (my husband) has had to brace me from falling off one thing or another…but it’s always worth it!
Favorite animal at the zoo?
Flamingos – it’s a childhood thing.
Can’t live without?
The feeling of being at home. I love finally having the feeling of being at home again.
Hidden talent?
I have a special connection with kids. I guess I we act a bit a like
Smiles aren’t that hard for me to get!
Favorite quote?
So many. Right now, “Today I will be happier than a bird with a French Fry.” I have it hanging next to my desk…it makes me smile daily.
Best compliment ever received?
That they could see that I lived my life for Christ…that’s the most important thing in my life and I am blessed when people can see it.
If you weren’t a photographer what would you be?
A bad architect. I love buildings & architecture…but I am awful at math
Describe your perfect day.
Hiking and photographing with my husband.
