Megan + Jorge: 06.13.09

You may remember Megan and Jorge from their super cool e-pics that I posted a few weeks ago – well, their super cool wedding was on Saturday.

The Story
The very best part of my job is the connection that I make with my couples and their families. When I got an email from the mom and dad of a bride and groom whose wedding I planned back in 2005, I was tickled and flattered – their other daughter Megan was about to get engaged and they asked me to help with her wedding as well.

Megan and Jorge met while working at American Greetings in Cleveland but their friendship didn’t turn into love until Megan had moved onto a different company. Jorge’s career took him to Boston and their relationship continued long distance until they realized they didn’t want to be long distance anymore and the wedding plans began.

Megan is a writer and Jorge is an artist so the details of this wedding were thoughtful, very personal and really, really cool! The invitation featured an illustration of Megan and Jorge leaning against a tree – her reading and him drawing. It was echoed throughout the wedding as you’ll see in the pictures.

Megan and Jorge saw each other for the first time on the wedding day in her parent’s backyard. I love when my couples have a ‘first look’ before the ceremony – it seems to calm nerves better than anything else I could think of and the pictures from it are always sweet, always intimate and always a peek into the heart of the relationship.

From there, everyone headed to The Cleveland Botanical Gardens. The Japanese Gardens fit the bill for a ceremony surrounded by nature. The ceremony featured the threat of rain, Megan entering with her father down a long set of stone stairs, a cappella gospel singers, a dropped ring, an adorable meandering flower girl, readings in both English and Spanish (Jorge’s family is from Columbia), a harp/flute duo and laughter through tears all around.

Cocktails on the terrace were followed by a reception in Clark Hall. We dressed the tables in royal blue crushed linens with lime green napkins and citrus chair pads. The flowers were all shades of green including bells of Ireland and cymbidium orchids.

I mentioned Megan was a writer. She collaborated with her friend Michael Harvey who is a singer/songwriter – Megan wrote the words and Michael wrote the music and everyone, including Jorge, heard it for the first time at the wedding. Actually, everyone heard about it for the first time at the wedding too – it was a surprised for everyone including Jorge. Michael sang the song for the newlyweds. It was easily one of the most moving and special first dances I have ever seen.

I have been a part of both Megan and Cory’s wedding and there are no more siblings so this was the last wedding with their family but I feel very blessed that I was able to work with them twice. Megan is joining Jorge in Boston soon and I know her friends and family will miss her being in Cleveland but I have no doubt that they will be happy seeing Megan and Jorge so happy together

To Megan and Jorge, thank you for letting me be a part of your wedding – I am so very lucky to get to work with brides and grooms like you. Can’t wait to see the life you create together.

The Pictures
A HUGE thank you to Melissa for the fastest sneak peek ever!

Megan and Jorge’s first glance – I love this series:

The guy’s ties and the flower girl’s sashes were all made from the same material of as the bridesmaid’s dresses:

How pretty is this for an entrance?  The bridesmaids and groomsmen entered a different way so this was only used for Megan and her father:

The ridiculously cute flower girl and ring bearer – the flower girl is Megan’s niece and one of the 7 babies (that I know of!) from past EDEP couples:

I am a detail girl – the little details make me a happy wedding planner so this collage made my heart sing!
From the top – the guy’s ties with the wedding logo screen printed on it, the invitation including the wedding logo, the placecard table, the Clark Room at Cleveland Botanical Garden all set for dinner, Megan’s bouquet, the cake – notice the topper is a perfect replica of the wedding logo, the table with the menus set for dinner:

Megan’s friend Michael Harvey who she wrote the first dance song with for Jorge:

Another huge thank you to Melissa Rudick for the fastest sneak peek ever!  There are even more pictures over at Melissa’s blog and I had a REALLY hard time picking just these few – I have a feeling the whole bunch is going to present a lot of favorites.

Thank you for all of your help, support, and suggestions! Jorge and I and our families were thrilled to have you with us. Thanks, too, for this lovely write up…we read it together right before Jorge hopped on a plane back to Boston (I’ll be joining him shortly) and it was nice to read your perspective on us and the big day. I think the first dance was a hit! I was pretty nervous about how it would all turn out but I don’t think it could have been any better.

We didn’t get a picture together at the wedding! We’ll have to rectify that somehow…maybe Melissa can do some magical photoshopping 🙂

    Thanks again…please stay in touch!

It was a joy working with you. This write-up is lovely and really shows off how much you love your job. I know I have a picture of you with the lovely couple too- just forgot to upload it for you before I went on vacation! I hope I can work with you again!
