First Things First: A

A is for Attendants (don’t ask too quickly!)

They are your best friends and the first people you probably called when you got engaged so don’t ask them to be in your bridal party.  Not right away.  Even if you know exactly who you would like to have in your bridal party, wait until you nail down the budget and size of your wedding before you ask them.  Having a wedding with 50 guests and 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen would be a bit strange, no?

Your guest list and your bridal party should be in proportion to each other – there is no set rule of thumb but your bridal party probably shouldn’t be more than 10% of your guest list unless you are having a small destination wedding or there are some unique circumstances in play.

If you are worried about hurting your friend’s feelings by not asking immediately, just make sure you ask everyone at about the same time and no one will feel like they were a second or third choice.  You can’t unask someone to be the in bridal party and that would hurt their feelings more than waiting a few weeks to be asked in the first place.
