Babymoon 2007 – Part 3: Asheville

We actually extended our trip in the Outer Banks by one night and skipped stopping in High Point where all the furniture mills are – we were enjoying ourselves by the beach too much!

Friday we made our way to Asheville. The town is up in the Smokey Mountains and quite far inland so the temp dropped and the altitude was noticeable which made stair climbing and walking around a little harder for me but I am SO glad we went!

The most famous attraction in the area is the Vanderbilt mansion called The Biltmore:

As you can see, it is an amazing place! Built in the late 1800’s, it is beautifully secluded in the mountains and the view is amazing. They were breaking down a wedding from the night before and this view is what the wedding guests got to see during dinner – not too shabby:

The gardens around the house are amazing as well:

A bad picture but hey, you give your camera to a stranger to take pictures, you can’t guarantee the results! This is us on one of the balconies of the house:

We spent Saturday morning there and actually, I wish we had had more time to spend as we would have done some of the behind the scenes tours that are offered. There is a lot to do in the area and at the Biltmore itself – we have plans to go back once this little girl is a bit older. If you happen to be in the Smokies, make sure to stop at the Biltmore – well worth the trip!

From Asheville we headed back to Charlotte and flew home Saturday night. There you have it, Babymoon 2007. It was a great vacation and so very nice to get away for a little while, just the two of us before this little girl joins the family!
