Babymoon 2007 – Part 2: The Outer Banks

We drove from Wilmington to Manteo in the Outer Banks on Tuesday. At that point we still had lovely weather – temps in the high 80’s, sunshine and beaches…what more could you want?

We drove down to Cape Hatteras and climbed the lighthouse. Yes, me and my big old belly managed to make it to the top of the tallest brick lighthouse in the USA:

There were some crazy winds that day – 35 mph but the view from the top was well worth it:

We also stopped and played in the ocean – since it was well before the high season, the beaches were empty. The water was freezing but we waded in up to our knees:

The last day we were in the OBX, we rented a jeep and went 4 wheeling in Corolla. This picture is on the beach and there are no paved roads so this house and all the others in the area are only accessible via 4 wheel drive on the beach – very remote and secluded:

The area is well known for the wild horses that still roam along the beach and in the dunes. We didn’t see any of those (we think they were hiding because of the rainy day) but we did see this poor baby shark that had washed up on the beach:

Next up: Asheville
