Sandy + Jeff: 04.13.13

Sunday, February 16th, 2014

{We’re showing off our gorgeous weddings from the last two years in anticipation of our 10th anniversary on Feb 24!}

Sandy and Jeff have been together for a long time – if I recall correctly, about 8 years when I first met them.  During that time, they have literally been all over the world together!  When Sandy and I first met, they were leaving for Turkey the following week!  They actually spent Thanksgiving there – ironic, no?

Jeff proposed in Italy, in an area where lemon trees abound!  We incorporated lots of bright yellow lemons and vivid greenery in the decor.  The tables were black and white with pops of lemon yellow – sunny and gorgeous!  All the tables were named after places the couple has traveled to together.  Favors included mini suitcases with fun treats inside and balsa wood airplanes and all the guests wrote postcards to the couple in lieu of a guestbook.  Guests found “Where in the world” they were sitting by checking the passport inspired escort card holder.

Sandy was escorted into the ceremony by her uncles and the newly married couple were led out by a surprise bagpiper.  Jeff loves Irish music so he found an amazing Irish group from Philly called The Fair Trade.  They played ceremony music and then entertained guests during the cocktail hour and dinner.  Guests also had a great time dancing for a few sets after dinner before the DJ took over and packed the dance floor.

As it turns out, my husband’s friend, Dave, and Sandy actually worked together for many years which we realized well into the planning – confirming once again that Columbus makes an already small world even smaller.

Amy + Nick: 04.06.13

Saturday, February 15th, 2014

{We’re showing off our gorgeous weddings from the last two years in anticipation of our 10th anniversary on Feb 24!}

Amy told me right off the bat that she wanted glitz, glamour, sparkle, and shine!  She wanted over the top pretty and I think we delivered that perfectly at The Columbus Museum of Art.  We had lots of little touches including fun crystal buckles around the menus and lots of crystals in among the flowers too!

The ceremony was at Broad Street Presbyterian but Nick’s sister and brother in law who are ministers in another church were able to preside over the ceremony and marry them!  It always lends such a special touch when someone who the bride and groom know is able to perform the ceremony.

Amy found me because one of her former coworkers had used my services until she called off her wedding.  I got to see that former bride at Amy and Nick’s wedding and had a little conversation with her boyfriend – looking forward to them calling me when the time comes.  I love reunions at weddings!

Amy and Nick moved to the great white north (AKA Minnesota) quickly after the wedding so Amy can study to become a nurse anesthetist.  Here’s hoping she brings her sweet disposition and nursing skills back to Columbus!

Amy + Drew: 3.23.13

Friday, February 14th, 2014

{We’re showing off our gorgeous weddings from the last two years in anticipation of our 10th anniversary on Feb 24!}

I’ve known Amy since she was a bridesmaid in Aimee and Ryan’s wedding back in 2009 so I was thrilled when she called to have me help plan her own wedding!

Amy and Drew love cooking together and we designed a wedding perfectly reflective of that love!  We had an adorable logo made up of cooking utensils, pitchers serving as vases for their centerpieces, a recipe box guestbook and a really cool guest favor – a personalized cookbook made up of recipes submitted by their guests.

Amy’s bridesmaids all selected different dresses in the same fabric and color from J. Crew.  Each of them carried a bouquet made up entirely of one flower – hydrangea, lilacs, peonies, ranunculus, and tulips.  Their groomsmen partners had matching boutonnieres as well.  Amy’s bouquet was a mix of those flowers with some blue touches thrown in as well.  It was lovely!

When it come to weddings, sometimes you just have to laugh over the things we just can’t control.  Amy and Drew had a gorgeous blue vintage Mustang ready for their getaway but when it came time to get away…it just didn’t get away.  Luckily we had many able bodied men who were willing to give them a hand!

If you want some good advice, check out the picture of the newspaper clipping.  The handsome couple pictured is the bride’s grandparents and the clipping is “Twelve Rules for a Happy Marriage.”  When Grandpa passed away, they found this weathered paper under his desk blotter where he had kept it for years.  He and Amy’s Grandma were married for nearly 65 years so I am guessing the advice works!

Thanks to Little Tree Studios for the pictures!

Thursday, February 13th, 2014

{Why a 2012 wedding? We’re flashing back through the last 2 years of weddings in the 24 days leading up to our anniversary!}

Meredith and Dave are both officers in the Air Force and planned their wedding while still at the AF Academy in Colorado.  They wanted a Christmastime wedding but not a Christmas wedding – make sense?!  Since we were so close to Christmas, we decided to stick with red and silver and not the typical red and green for their intimate Athletic Club of Columbus wedding!

I loved their gingerbread house cutting cake and Christmas themed cupcakes – each topper indicated the flavor inside.  We had snowflakes, candy canes, red bows and gingerbread men!  We also had tons of ornaments on the tables along with the gorgeous trees that decorate the Athletic Club every holiday season.   Guests enjoyed the hot chocolate bar, candy buffet (red and white only!) and cinnamon rolls with milk as the late night snack!

Make sure you check out the flower girl’s shoes – ruby red sequined slippers that I wish came in adult sizes!

Christina + Marc: 9.8.12

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014

{Why a 2012 wedding? We’re flashing back through the last 2 years of weddings in the 24 days leading up to our anniversary!}

Sometimes technology isn’t my friend – this one didn’t get scheduled correctly so we’re a touch of out of order but I promise it was worth the wait!

Christina and Marc live in San Diego where Marc is in the Navy but he grew up here and let’s face it, weddings are a bit easier to pay for in Columbus than Cali.  Top 5 (out of many) things we loved from their Creekside wedding:

    1. A friend made their table numbers resembling different naval ships and they named the tables after various naval ships including some that Marc has served on.
    2. Christina was raised overseas including in Japan and as per tradition, she and her friends folded over 1000 paper cranes which were displayed all over the reception.
    3. M&Ms with their cat Buster’s picture on them on the dessert bar.
    4. The vintage cars that the bridal party used as transportation to pictures.
    5. Christina’s smile!  What she lacks in height (she’s teeny!), she makes up for with a thousand watt smile!

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014

{Why a 2012 wedding? We’re flashing back through the last 2 years of weddings in the 24 days leading up to our anniversary!}

Leslie and Jason told me right up front they didn’t want a traditional wedding – they wanted something that they would actually want to attend themselves.

Some of my favorite things from Leslie and Jason’s wedding that you probably wouldn’t see at a more ‘typical’ wedding: zip lining before the wedding – we were at Camp Mary Orton after all!  Leslie and Jason got ready together – they also entered the ceremony together to video game theme songs.  Leslie’s colorful, custom made wedding gown.  Delicious vegetarian food from Lavash for dinner, multiple cakes from PattyCake Vegan and Mikey’s Late Night Slice food truck as a later in the evening snack.  We had a DJ spinning inside and a band made up of the couple’s friends outside – the groom even joined them for a song. Basketball and cornhole, sunflowers and succulents.  They wanted nontraditional and outside the mainstream box…I think we nailed it!

Heather + Chris: 9.15.12

Monday, February 10th, 2014

{Why a 2012 wedding? We’re flashing back through the last 2 years of weddings in the 24 days leading up to our anniversary!}

Heather and Chris’ wedding was a happy reunion for me in top of being a great wedding – I had 3 past couples in attendance.  The bride’s sister, Megan and her husband, James, as well as Megan and Heather’s childhood neighbors Meredith and Kelsey and their husbands Steve and Ryan.  In fact, one of the many EDEP babies was the ring bearer – Heather’s nephew Joey!  Plus, I got to see all the parents – too much fun!

I loved that Heather got ready at her and Chris’ house and then they went back to the house for pictures with their beloved cat, Duchess.  It was important to them and so we made sure that fit in the schedule.  All the pictures from that stop off are so relaxed!  You can tell they were at home…both literally and figuratively.

One more sister left in Heather and Megan’s family – I think her parents are ready to have her elope to Aruba.  I am, of course, available for travel!

Saturday, February 8th, 2014

{Why a 2012 wedding? We’re flashing back through the last 2 years of weddings in the 24 days leading up to our anniversary!}

So remember Elisabeth and Chris’ wedding that got blown off the Renaissance rooftop and into the ballroom?  Mother nature made that up to me with Katie and Brad’s wedding – no comfort to E&C but perfection for Katie and Brad!  A little breeze, lots of sunshine, and the most perfect temperature!

Katie and Brad love to travel together and we did multiple touches from their travels including naming all their tables after places they’ve visited, a guestbook of postcards and vintage suitcases.  Flowers on Orchard Lane did an amazing ribbon canopy for the ceremony and we had gorgeous string lighting crossing the rooftop – it was all stunning!  Just the like the bride and groom!

We loved this wedding and Style Me Pretty did too – you can see even more pictures at their site!

Friday, February 7th, 2014

{Why a 2012 wedding? We’re flashing back through the last 2 years of weddings in the 24 days leading up to our anniversary!}

At our first meeting, Laura and I realized that she actually had my old job at A&F – small world, once again!  This wedding also produced one of my top three favorite ballroom reveal pictures ever – you can see it below, you’ll see another in a couple weeks with Lauren and Scott!  I loved both Laura and Mark’s reactions to seeing the Westin ballroom for the first time!

Laura and Mark were one of my many ‘Miami Mergers’ – for those not in Ohio, that is when both bride and groom are alumni of Miami University of Ohio.  Their guest book was a beautiful coffee table book about Miami University and it seems that it runs in the family for the bride – her parents are a Miami Merger as well!

Leslie + Daniel: 7.7.12

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

{Why a 2012 wedding? We’re flashing back through the last 2 years of weddings in the 24 days leading up to our anniversary!}

So here’s the thing about ten years of weddings…I have stories from every single wedding.  Leslie and Daniel’s July 7th wedding at The Columbus Country Club gave me more than a few!

Let’s see, I could tell you all about how HOT (it hit 107 degrees) it was on Leslie and Daniel’s wedding day but how the bride and groom and all their guests were troopers and danced well into the night!  How we weren’t sure if we would have power – remember the blackout around July 4, 2012?  How we had to SEW a bridesmaid into her gown because the zipper split – two lessons learned that day: DO NOT try to zip yourself into a dress with a back zipper alone on a hot day and veterinary surgeons are very good at sewing up animals as well as dresses.  How about while we were sewing said bridesmaid into her gown, Daniel had the best reaction ever to seeing his bride?  Did I mention how incredibly hot it was – trust me, it warrants mentioning twice.

All that really happened but I must say that my favorite story happened after the wedding – let me tell you how Leslie’s dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor not too long after the wedding but is now doing great and KICKING brain cancer’s butt!!  I will also be forever grateful to Dr. Leslie (she’s an amazing veterinarian) for helping me and my family through the rapid onset illness and death of our beloved golden, Truman, last year.  Needless to say, I am lucky to call her and Daniel my friends.
