The Story
Maggie and Ryan lived in the same dorm in college and even had some friends in common but only knew OF each other. It wasn’t until a few years after college at a friend’s birthday party that the romance began.

Maggie and Ryan wanted an outdoor wedding with a big white tent for the reception and Franklin Park Conservatory’s Garden Pavilion tent and patio fit the bill perfectly. Even though the sky was a bit gray and there was a threat of rain all day, the ceremony was held on the patio outside the tent as was the cocktail hour.

Ryan grew up in New Orleans and Maggie and Ryan really wanted to incorporate some of that spirit into the wedding. After the cocktail hour, the couple led their guests into the reception with a raucous second line march. Maggie and Ryan dancing their way into the tent, parasols in hand, with the guests waving hankies and dancing behind them all led by the Toll House Jazz Band. It was first for me and most of the vendors and it was SO MUCH FUN!

Rather than the usual round tables, we had 4 very long tables set for the 112 guests. The long family style tables really added an intimate feel to the large space. Each table was set with linens in shades of purple with white organza overlays. The tent was lit with hundreds of candles of all sizes and down the center of each table were tons of purple and lilac roses with larger arrangements every few seats. I must say the tent really was breathtaking. Maggie actually made me cry a little bit when she saw the tent for the first time because she was just SO excited and thrilled with how it turned out.

Some of the New Orleans contingent (including the Best Man) left during the reception to “get up to no good” and came back with a VERY well decorated car – balloons, paint, streamers strung from the bumper. It was a fantastic get away car although they all assured me this was very tame compared to the way they do it in New Orleans.

Maggie and Ryan left to a sparkler send off and the guests left with favors of homemade (family recipe) jams and preserves from the mothers of the bride and groom.

It was a wonderful wedding and I feel so blessed that I was a part of it. I will miss my daily emails with Maggie and Ryan now that the planning is over but since they are moving from DC to Cincinnati in the next month – hopefully I will be seeing them from time to time!

Weather Underground

Even though I tell my brides to STOP looking at the weather 3 days before the wedding – this is still a great site to have on the bookmark list. Why WU over that other weather site? This site has EVERYTHING you could want to know on one page from forecasts, astronomy, air quality and more. Plus, the hourly forecast feature goes out 6 days rather than 3. If you are going to look, you might as well look here!

I know, I know – you are asking yourself why I am suggesting you bookmark the US Postal Service. Well, their website is actually rather useful! You can select and order stamps for your invitations and thank you notes. You can have your mail held for your honeymoon. You can even change your address if you are moving after the wedding. THAT is why I am suggesting you bookmark the USPS. 🙂

Think Garnish

This is a VERY fun one if you agree with me that half the fun of the gift is the outside – think about that little blue box from Tiffany’s. Amazing ideas for prettying things up and all the parts and pieces you need to make them.

Fairytale Runners

A custom aisle runner with your initials or monogram or symbol on it made from sturdy canvas. That so beats those plastic runners that are impossible to unroll and get torn or snagged. Plus, you can wear those heels you love and not worry about tripping – bonus!
