RIP: Polaroid

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Polaroid announced recently that they are no longer going to produce their instant film and have completely stopped producing the instant cameras that you remember from your childhood. You know you have at least one Polaroid of your 2 1/2 year old self wearing cowgirl boots and hat with your Wonder Woman Underroos lying around somewhere. No? Okay, that must just be me. *Ahem* Moving on!

What does this have to do with weddings? Well, it means no more Polaroid Guestbooks. I have done several at weddings in the past and they always turned out very cute! Grace and Sean had my favorite one ever – Grace’s Mom took pictures of both Grace and Sean in their wedding outfits and had them made into life size foam core stand ups.

We set up a station at the wedding and the guests took pictures with the stand in Grace and Sean. The pictures turned out great, the guests LOVED it and now the couple has a picture of themselves with each of the guests at the wedding (without all the time that would normally take)!

If you are planning on doing a Polaroid guestbook at your upcoming wedding and still need film – you can browse the remaining stock at polaroid.com.

So, goodbye to the first camera that gave us instant gratification (and let us check whether our eyes were closed or not).

The biggest snow storm in 30 years…

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Friday and Saturday saw the Columbus area hit with blizzard warnings, everything closed, snow emergencies everywhere AND WE MISSED IT!

We were on vacation in warm and sunny Arizona visiting my parents from the 1st to the 8th – Saturday to Saturday. We managed to catch one of the only flights into Port Columbus on Saturday right after the storm stopped.

We went from this:

To this:

This picture was taken on Monday from our front door after 2 days of melt off. We couldn’t even get in the driveway when we got home Saturday night, we had to park in the neighbor’s driveway until we could snow blow on Sunday.

If our flight had been canceled on Saturday night, like 90% of the rest of the flights into Columbus were, we would not have been confirmed on a flight until TUESDAY. Thank goodness, we got in just fine, luggage and all!

Randy and I are both (secretly) kind of sad to have missed the blizzard of ’08 – neither of us have seen one in person before. Vacation was wonderful (even with the colds and allergies we all brought back – even Ellie is sniffling) but it is always nice to be home! Even with 18″ of snow on the ground.
