A Day at the Races

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

I spent a lovely day at Churchill Downs in Louisville with the Kentucky Branch of the Association of Bridal Consultants. Had lunch at Millionaire’s Row, bet (read: lost) some money, got a lovely sunburn on my arms and got private lessons from a pro named Jacki who also happens to be a consultant (Do you know what a trifecta box is and how to place that bet? I can say that I now do!). As is every meeting with KY ABC, it was a fabulous day!

Guess who got engaged this weekend?

Randy’s best friend Dave asked Amanda to marry him this weekend!!

(Dave asked Randy to be the Best Man and he immediately began to plan the bachelor party – I am already afraid)

Sheila + John: 05.20.06

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

Sheila and John have been together for 15 years. Considering 15 years is longer than some marriages last these days, no doubt they have a wonderful foundation to continue to build their life together on.

They got married on a unseasonably chilly May morning. We even had a little sunshine – the first day it hadn’t rained in Cleveland in over a week.

The reception was held at a wonderful restaurant in Cleveland called Moxie. We had two long tables, amazing food, fabulous wine, great conversation – a truly wonderful reception. It was low key, intimate, classy, stylish – everything Sheila told me she wanted when we first met many months ago.

One of their friends gave a toast that I think sums up marriage quite nicely – he told them there is no magic formula, you just make it up as you go along. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you don’t but you have to just keep making it up.

Sheila and John were with me for 17 months and I will miss them quite a bit.

Searching the database in my head…

As I mentioned last week, I have recently become acquainted enthralled with Myspace. This has caused me to spend time searching through the millions of other Myspace users for long lost friends from grade school, junior high, church camp, high school, windmill island (don’t ask), youth group, internships, summer camp, college, old companies, neighbors, etc.

I find myself thinking of random people from my past in my sleep, while driving to the grocery store, during everyday conversation (Randy is used to me interrupting conversation with random people’s names – why yes, I AM blessed with a patient husband).

I never realized how much random information is stored in my head – for instance, the name of my neighbor when I was 5 years old (Carrie) or my favorite camper from when I was a counselor at YMCA Storer in 1995 (Emily) or my neighbor from grade school (Depali).

Why in the world do I remember these random names and yet I cannot remember what box my paper cutter is in?

New for Weddings: Teddy Bear Guns….

Gun-shaped teddy bear crackers ready to liven up wedding receptions

Apparently in Japan, they are throwing teddy bears* instead of bouquets. A paint firm decided to create a gun** using the basics of a paintball gun to fire the teddy bears into the air***.

A few notes:
*Seriously? They throw teddy bears? At wedding receptions? Confusing to say the least.
**Gun at wedding. Any kind of gun at wedding, not the best idea.
***Don’t worry, the bears have parachutes.

Don’t worry, I have no idea either.

Myspace.com

I have been spending random amounts of time on myspace.com. It is amazing the number of people on there: classmates from high school, friends from college, ex-boyfriends. Definitely interesting. Good way to pass some time and you never know who you might see on there!

I must really love my Molly!

I must really love my cousin, Molly.

I am going to Louisville this weekend. May 6th. DERBY WEEKEND.

Molly is flying in to see her parents and then we are having a sleep over. I have not seen her in nearly a year – not since her brother Andy’s wedding in June of last year when she and her hubby Damon were on leave from Iraq. She got home in February but we have not had a chance to get together so this is fabulous!

I AM SO EXCITED!!!

Derby Weekend in Louisville and me without a hat! I must really love her or something!

Handy site!

Several of my brides are in the middle of selecting music for their receptions. In helping them I came across a really cool site:

Make a Wedding Song List

Could be useful for any other brides trying to come up with music for their big day!
