Wine tasting with Jelly Belly beans?

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

Confession time: I took a fabulous wine tasting class through Cleveland Wine School a few months ago. I learned a lot about different BUT I wasn’t quite as adept as I would like at distinguishing the different flavors as is necessary in wine tasting. There goes my career as a Master Sommelier, right?

But wait! All is not lost!

Wine Bar from Wine X Magazine. From the website:

The idea is to taste the individual Jelly Belly beans first, to understand the different flavors associated with certain wine varietals. Then you put all of the flavors in your mouth at the same time, chew them together, and voila… you experience the wine varietal itself.

Maybe that career as a Master Sommelier isn’t out of the question after all!

Who knew I could lust after a desk?

Vocation Vacations

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

While I realize that I have one of the jobs listed on Vocation Vacations, there are a few I would love to try!

I mean come on! How much fun would it be to try being a Pub Landlord in England? Or a Floral Designer? And that is with Paula Pryke! Or a cowboy boot maker or a makeup artist or a sports announcer!

Some very fun ideas…maybe on our next vacation!

Heath Brownies

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

I may have to try these this weekend:

Heath Bar Brownies

Ingredients:
1 box brownie mix
1 box chocolate pudding mix
4 full size Heath bars – crushed
1 container of Cool Whip
1 cup of Kahlua

Bake the brownies according to boxed instructions and let cool.

Prepare the pudding in another bowl, substituting one cup of milk for one cup of Kahlua and let chill. Once it’s solidified, pour on top of cooled brownies.

Layer on Cool Whip.

Layer on Heath bar pieces.

Dive in and relish the sugar buzz.

YUM.

ICE your phone

Tuesday, July 19th, 2005

I really like this idea and plan to do this and have hubby do it as well:

Following the disaster in London, the East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national “In case of Emergency (ICE)” campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston.

The idea is that you store the word “I C E” in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted “In Case of Emergency”. In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It’s so simple that everyone can do it.

Please do. It really could save your life, or put a loved one’s mind at rest. For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc

Obviously, the “national” campaign is for England BUT I still think it is useful for the US as well – the more widely spread this idea becomes, the more useful in an emergency.

Birthday Weekend

Monday, July 18th, 2005

Had a very nice weekend. Wound up not going to the Harry Potter release party, but got up and was at Borders at 9:01. Huge line, even that early. I got a kick out of the fact that the entire line was adults and they were all buying it for themselves. 🙂

Read all day Saturday and then Randy and I had dinner at Blue Canyon – excellent food. I had scallops which were amazing and a fabulous white chocolate mousse with chocolate ganache. Wonderful.

Spent Sunday afternoon out of the 1000% humidty and ridiculous heat in the theater watching Wedding Crashers. Absolutely not a movie for the young ones but very funny. I really like Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.

Finished Harry Potter and am now reading it again – first time for the story, second time for the nuances. Very sad at the end, very much looking forard to book 7! Only two years left, right?

Today is the day…

I am 29 years old. My last year in my twenties is set to begin at 2:40 pm.

Can I be honest? I am a little freaked out by it. I know age is just a number and goodness knows I don’t look 29 and I still feel like I am a kid.

As I have erased this sentence half a dozen times, I will just say that I cannot describe it, just a little freaked out.

So they spelled it a little wrong…

Always wanted a tropical storm named after me – they just missed spelled it. No biggie, I forgive the National Hurricane Center. Did you know that they started naming storms in 1953? A little trivia for you!

More on DBS Situation

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005

Discount Bridal Service sent an email to it’s dealers last night regarding the situation. The main part that I wanted to share is quoted below:

We have attempted to fill all orders in house for bridal gowns with the correct size, color and comparable value from our inventory. We know some brides will be receiving gowns they may not choose to wear but we are trying to make an attempt to diminish their losses……In terms of bridesmaid’s orders, there’s nothing we can do to fulfill these obligations. We have supplied each customer with the order number and necessary information to be able to call the manufacturers directly.

It looks like some brides with a bridal gown outstanding may get a gown that is similar but not the one that was ordered! As far as bridesmaid gowns, looks like those folks are out of luck unless they can contact the manufacturer and get it straight from them.
